Objective - Services - Respite Services - Who can Apply? - What Does it Cost?

Objective:

Palmer Place provides essential non-medical personal support services on a long term contractual basis to persons with a physical disability or traumatic brain injury which prevents the individual from carrying out the activities of daily living unaided, without endangering themselves, or within a conventional timeframe.

Services:

Attendant Services may include:

  • Personal grooming and hygiene
  • Bathing and showering
  • Toileting, including some bowel and bladder procedures
  • Rising and retiring
  • Dressing and undressing
  • Mobility, transferring and positioning
  • Meal preparation, assistance with eating, and clean-up
  • Essential communication

In addition, assistance with the following may be provided:

  • Housekeeping
  • Laundry
  • Transportation
  • Shopping
  • Banking
  • Life skills training

Respite Services:

Visitors can enjoy their own private, fully furnished, one bedroom apartment, with the peace of mind of competent 24 hour on-site support services. This accessible apartment is close to public transit, shopping and recreational facilities in the Burlington area. Bookings are for a minimum of one week.

  • The present cost of a one week visit is $250
  • For greater value, one month bookings are available at a fee of $600
  • Telephone and cable television are included

Who Can Apply?

  • Applicants must be 16 years of age or older
  • Applicants must have a physical disability or traumatic brain injury
  • Applicants must be able to direct their own services
  • Applicants must have their other needs met within the community's existing health care system
  • Applicants must be accepted by the landlord for tenancy

What Does it Cost?

The apartment rents at Palmer Place may be based on a geared-to-income basis. Necessary equipment and supplies are the responsibility of the tenant.
